This remarkable, fully intact collection—totaling more than 800 paintings—offers collectors an unprecedented opportunity to acquire works spanning seven decades of a distinguished mid-century career. Maroon is celebrated for his vivid, expressive depictions of urban life, particularly the dynamic pulse of New York City. His acclaimed works numbering over 90, including New York City Parade and 81 West Street and Bethune Street Pier, form part of his expansive series “Manhattan Corners,” a powerful visual chronicle of the city’s energy, architecture, and people. Characterized by bold color, movement, and emotional depth, his paintings reflect the vibrancy and complexity of modern urban environments. Also in the New York City venue he captured the theatres of New York with over 80 theatres represented. Beyond his New York oeuvre, Maroon traveled extensively throughout the world, capturing the culture, landscape, and daily life of the places he visited. The estate includes significant groups of works from Paris, French châteaux, Japan, the Caribbean, and broader regions of Europe. His line-drawn portraits – depicting individuals encountered both abroad and in New York City from Studio 54 to the Broadway culture – highlight his remarkable observational skill and artistic sensitivity, and stand out for their scope and quality. Maroon’s career included solo exhibitions at the Corcoran Gallery and the Flynn Gallery in New York, among many others. His illustrations appeared widely in books, journals, and magazines, contributing to the visual record of 20th-century American life. The December 19 auction marks the first time this comprehensive body of work will be available to the public. Collectors, galleries, and institutions will find unique opportunities across a diverse range of subjects, styles, and periods from one of America’s under-recognized mid-century talents.
